the building project

WE CAME to Askrigg and the chapel in September 2007. I used to wake in the night and contemplate the massive, cold, empty space over my head and wonder what on earth we were going to do with it. I couldn’t even picture it properly, having no spatial awareness. That’s the posh way of putting it: Ian just thinks it’s stupidity and he might be right. Anyway, I still can’t work out how the spare bedroom upstairs ends up being on top of the kitchen, or even how the big west window actually faces south.

We gave ourselves a year to decide what to do until we realised that that was probably how long it was going to take anybody to get round to starting once we’d decided on the plan. So we got going in April 2008 and began sounding out builders in the area round about November.  We chose G.E. Brown (see main ‘chapel’ page) partly on price and partly on recommendation and we’ve never looked back. The pictures on this page are quite a random slection showing the progress of the job. Others are on the various posts.
