THE PANTECHNICON came today and we half-filled it after rapidly arranging to hire extra space: two shipping containers, now, and both filled. I can’t think how we imagined we’d just be able to put a few boxes and odd bits of furniture in the middle of the floor and ask the builders to work round them.
When the materials arrived we could see why it would have been impossible. Wooden beams – they’re going to make conventional, rather than suspended, ceilings which will give us loft storage – and rolls and rolls of insulation material for the walls and roof. The walls are currently bare stone: not very energy efficient.
