A VISIT to the gardens at Burton Constable (or should that be Constable Burton? I never remember, though the latter sounds more like something out of Dixon of Dock Green) on Sunday, my birthday, with Ian, Beth and Charlie. It was tulip season with around 70 varieties on display. They were fabulous. By chance we met the owner, Charles Wyvill and Connie, his lovely black labrador. Turned out he and Ian had – guess what? – a model railway friend in common. The yawning gap between landed gentry and humble visitor suddenly narrowed. Just checked – it is Constable Burton (see the blogroll for the link). Burton Constable’s miles away.
