IT’S A MIRACLE . . .

I STILL can’t believe it. Beth had to break the news to Charlie that the goldfish had been devoured by the heron: they were visiting on Sunday and I knew the first thing Charlie would do would be to head for the pond. She had to be told the awful truth before finding out for herself. She sauntered over to the pond anyway – and promptly spotted three of the missing fish, plus virtually all the baby ones. They’d obviously been in hiding for four days since the heron struck. Clever fish. We’ve now put  a net over to protect them. I feel ridiculously pleased to see that they have (probably) all survived, and to realise that the heron’s visit acted as a wake-up call to us to give them some protection. Hurray!
